“You get a chance as a student to meet the industry and learn how what I do fits into their work.“ Olaolu Ajala, Unviersity of Illinois Urbana Champaign
“It’s fascinating to see how other students at different schools around the country are approaching the same problems.” Nick Hawkins, University of Louisville
“It’s not often I get the chance to get out of the classroom and see cutting edge technologies in the power industry.” Neil Cammerdella, University of Central Florida
Earlier this spring, GEARED students made another strong showing at DistribuTECH 2018 in San Antonio. More than 40 students showcased their research on power systems, smart grid and distributed technology topics in a poster session that ran throughout the conference.
In addition the poster session, a tour of a local renewable energy manufacturing facility and a panel session with new young engineers in the utility industry, GEARED students were encouraged to spend time on the exhibition floor. “Power industry conferences are like Match.com for our GEARED engineering students,” said Joe Sarubbi, GEARED project manager. “Thousands of future employers in one place and dozens of potential workers…what could be better for both of them?”
In fact, one of the overriding post-conference comments from GEARED students was exactly that: what a tremendous opportunity for industry awareness and potential employment. “It’s a real eye-opener,” said one student.
DistribuTECH’s video team wanted to know what GEARED students thought about the conference. In this short video, Olaolu Ajala, Nick Hawkins and Neil Cammerdella share their impressions of the conference.
DistribuTECH 2019 is headed to New Orleans. GEARED students will be there!
